There are so many reasons people do keyword research.  If you think about it, if you are in internet marketing at all you had better do keyword research.  Knowing what people are searching for is how you will be found.  I could and do have the best site and some of the best products to sell, but if no one knows I am here then you sell exactly zero products.

The below list is a short outline of all the uses of keyword research.  And this is just a list from the top of my head.

1. PPC/CPA campaigns
2. Article Marketing
3. Video posts on You Tube
4. Finding and defining niches
5. Naming your website.  etc. etc. etc.

Keyword optimization is a vital part of internet marketing.  It is such a  vital part that I wanted to give my readers a brief list of ideas for using keyword research and then give you a link so that you could get a free report on free keywords tools.  As you are starting out I find that it was best to learn how to use the free stuff first and then once I had a good base knowledge of how keyword research works in practice I was able to purchase other products that would allow for a little more automization of the process.

Niche Marketing

First off let’s start off for the true beginner talking about using keyword research as a niche finder.  There are lots of niche markets out there you just have to find them.  More specifically you have to know what people are typing into their search engines to find them.  Identifying a market that has lots of people searching for it is important if you want to make any money online.  Finding a niche market is a lot like a popularity contest, after all who wants to be selling widgets if no one is looking for widgets or has any desire to own a widget.  It is easier to sell people stuff they are already looking for.

PPC/CPA

If you use paid advertising as an SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy then you want to get good “bang for your buck”.  No one makes money by flushing money down the toilet.  So obviously you need to do the research on what keyword(s) have the most searches, competition, and advertisers.  With all methods you should do testing before, after and during the campaign.  I personally do more keyword research with this method, remember each click is costing you money.

Article Marketing

This method is a lot of people’s favorite method for building a list of followers by getting traffic to your website.  After all targeted traffic is the name of the game.  Not just any kind of traffic will do you want it to be targeted specifically towards your niche.  This method will help you find people who are already interested in what you are selling.  To get your articles seen you need to do good keyword research.  You have to be very careful when using the article marketing strategy, you need good keywords but you don’t want to overdue it with the keywords.  The below guidelines should help you not to overdue it.

1. Make sure that you write so that people can easily read the article.
2. Use more than one keyword for your topic.
3. I always try not to use the main keyword more than once a paragraph.

The above rules are a good starting point, I recommend that if you do use ezines that you keep up to date with their guidelines for submitting articles.

Video Posts

Your keyword research comes into play here when you tag your videos.  Their isn’t any software, that I am aware of yet, that analyzes the spoken word to determine what is in the video.  So you need to make sure that you take advantage of the following rules when putting your keyword research to good use, especially with you tube.

• Inclued the main keyword in the title
• Include lots of your keywords in the description tab.
• Put around 3-4 of the keywords in the tags.

A lot of us tend to make new years resolutions, but how many people actually stick to them?  I would guess that not many people go beyond one month maybe two months at the most.  Most don’t even remember what they resolved to do more than a week later.

As an internet marketer you need to be different than the average person.  If you wish to succeed you must set goals for yourself to attain.  Those who fail to plan, plan to fail.  Find a program that works for you and then stick with it.

To often we don’t define our resolutions, we make them so lofty without really planning out any steps.  Like, I am going to lose weight this year! 

• How are you going to lose weight?
• What exercise program are you going to start?
• How often are you going to exercise?
• What types of food are you going to avoid?
• How much weight do you want to lose?

If you make your resolutions to vague you will never accomplish them.

The same could be said in the internet marketing world.  Your resolution should not be I am going to make money online this year.  That might be good but it is way to vague and ambiguous.  Maybe ask yourself the following questions to help you further define your goals and dreams so that you give yourself the chance to reach them.

1. What tools do you already possess to make money online?
2. What tools are you going to need to make money?
3. How many hours a week am I willing to put into my business?  It is your business, treat it that way!
4. How much money do I want to make in the next week, month, year?
5. What am I willing to sacrifice to obtain my dreams?  All dreams come with a price tag!

This is by no means and exhaustive list of questions, but it is meant to help get you started on your way.  If you don’t wish to break your new years resolutions this year, you need to do some planning.

Your normal tendency is to establish goals which would be unrealistically low.  This is precisely what keeps the ordinary person ordinary.

Your ultimate goals should be for something higher than you think at the moment you can obtain.  Dreams are meant to stir us up to greater things.  People,in general, can accomplish more than they realize when they have set high standards for themselves.

When you are  first starting out in any adventure you need to  have an idea of where you are headed.  You need to have this idea buried so deep down within you so that when the hard times come, and they will come, you can refocus on the end goal.

Many people are walking around without any ideas as to where they are headed and why they are heading there.  Ultimately they don’t know what success looks like so they are setting themselves up for failure.  They are hitting their heads’ against the wall over and over again, thinking that the next time they hit their head in the exact same manner they will get a different outcome.

Time races by them and they accomplish nothing.  They settle for less because, they don’t know what “more” even looks like.  The only goals they set are so small that even success means nothing to them.  They have so much unrealized potential.

Some of you reading this know that I am describing you.  You feel trapped and you don’t know what to do.  Hold on there is hope.

Begin by allowing yourself to think big.  Write down on paper, right now, one thing that you would like to accomplish in the next year.  Allow yourself to dream about something that is so big that you don’t know at this moment how you will accomplish it.

Then begin to brainstorm smaller plans keeping the ultimate plan in mind.  Set up goals for today, tomorrow, next week, next month, three months from now, six months from now.  Make the most immediate goals simple and easier to accomplish. 

Realize some of the smaller goals may change as you begin learning more and as challenges present themselves, but the end goal should not change.  You need to stay focused and keep plugging away.  Celebrate the victories and learn from the mistakes.

Make sure to write down the exact date and time that you succeeded.  Remind yourself of those successes continually.  Many of us only remind ourselves of our failures. 

Also seek out people who have similar dreams and aspirations.  Someone who will kick you in the seat of your pants when you need it.  We all need help at one time or another.

Now go and do it right now.

• Write down ultimate goal.
• Write down three goals for next week.
• Write down three small goals for next month.
• Write down three goals for 3 months from now.
• Write down three goals for 6 months from now.
• Periodically evaluate those goals.
• Celebrate your victories.
• Learn from your mistakes.

True or False One man’s gain MUST be another’s loss.

I ask this question about internet marketing, because at times it  seems to be people’s gut reaction toward’s salesmen.  I was in a forum the other day and their was this story of this man who was being completely trashed, because people thought he was trying to sell them his product by giving them something free at first and then pitching to  them a higher priced item.  The same strategy that almost every internet marketer I know of does.  Some even thought that if he really wanted to help them make money,  he should  just give his product for free.

This in my humble opinion is trying to say that one man’s gain is another’s loss.  They could have tried the product and then given it back if they found the information to not be helpful, he had a money back guarantee.  He was willing to exchange his time, energy, and effort that he put into his product for money.  Why should he have to give a product that he created away for free?  He would have gained cash, but they would have gained wisdom, that if applied could have made them cash.   They could have both come out winners.

I am not naming any names because I haven’t seen the product myself so I can’t make any judgements either way myself.  Although that didn’t seem to stop a lot of the people from leaving nasty comments about the man, they never even tried his product.  In fact every single nasty comment came from people who had never tried his product.  He actually had some of his customers come to his defense.

The people seemed to believe that he was just being greedy, they were simply stating that he was getting the better end of the deal.  It comes down to the fact that some people believe that one person’s gain, must come at the expense of another person.  Which I believe to be a false statement, people who freely exchange one thing for another can both benefit.

A better statement could be that one man’s gain can be another person’s gain.  When people are freely allowed to exchange resources with each other both parties potentially benefit.  I say potentially benefit, because their are some people out there who are just out to hurt you or others.  I just don’t want to be overly cynical and believe that everyone is out to get me.

I would also caution that if anyone says something that sounds way to good to be true it probably is.  Marketing on the internet is not all that much different from marketing in the offline world, it does take hard work, especially in the beginning.  Once you build up a good reputation it can become easier.  I am very greatful for all those people out there who I either bought or recieved free information from.  One person’s gain really can be another person’s gain.

• Do what you love and you will never work again.

These are all interesting questions that I believe are up for debate.  First of all I have a friend, whom I have known most of my life, loves working on old cars.  He is very good at it and spends most of his time, while not at his full time job working on various peoples older cars in his huge garage.  He said that if he had to work on cars just for money it would ruin it for him so he only works on them at about cost.  He could probably make a living off of it, but he only wants it as a hobby.

I guess that is to each his own.  I personally would rather do something I loved and make a living doing it.  Just because you love it doesn’t mean that there isn’t work involved.  I spend many hours a day working on my internet business, I love it, but it is work.  And there are tasks involved that I don’t enjoy, but I do them anyway, because if I didn’t I wouldn’t make any money.  I like having a roof over my head and eating is always good.

• If you can invision it, it will come.

Which brings me to the second true or false statement.  I believe it is just as tricky to answer.  You have to be willing to put in the effort to make it work.  Many people dream of making money with little or no effort whatsoever.  They think you can dream it and it will happen.  They need a reality check.  On the other hand if you don’t have any kind of ultimate goal or vision you will probably give up way too soon.

Working for yourself requires some type of vision.  On the days where you don’t want to get out of bed, because you are having one of those days, or  weeks, or months you need to be able to have an extreme amount of focus.  You kick yourself in the butt and remind yourself why you are doing this in the first place.  Knowing deep down inside where you are headed can give you the strength to persevere.

This one is the mother of them all, if you ask me.  How many times have you been promised the world with almost no effort on your part?  The first rule of them that you forgot in some of the hype is, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.  I say probably, because there is bound to be some part of there statement that is true.  Like, it is possible to make a living online, but don’t think for one nano second that it is all pie in the sky and won’t take any effort on your part.

It will take work.  I will say this though, it can be the most rewarding work you will ever do, and I am including financially rewarding as well.  As you help others solve their problems by providing a solution their problem the more money you can make.   That is one of the reasons people go into business for themselves in the first place.

One piece of advice that I would recommend for anyone using article marketing to make money is to put up your posts on your own page first.  Their are many reasons for this, but the most important reason is, because the first copy of your article is the one google will go to first if it finds your article.

You want people to go to your site first most of the time.  You still can post to article directories out there for advertising your material to other people.  Yes, you can post it exactly the same on any of the ezine sites as long as it is something you wrote.  You cannot just copy and paste someone elses stuff, but original content clause for article marketing in most article directories just means you wrote it or someone you paid wrote it just for you.
